Takayushi Ishii - Awonoyoh

Awonoyoh, aka Takayuki Ishii, is a man of many talents. He has studied shibori, katazome, Batik and other techniques relating to indigo. He farms indigo, collecting the leaves and producing sukumo. Sukumo is fermented indigo leaves and is used to build japanese style indigo vats. This process is disappearing with less than a dozen makers in Japan. Awonoyoh wrote a book, “The Way of Indigo”, to document this process.

Takayuki is a generous teacher, his online shibori offering is a monthly event. He is working to preserve and share a beautiful part of Japanese craft. We are fortunate to have this chance to study with him.
